She rules the seas alongside Aquaman, one of the most well-known heroes in the world, and stands as one of the most powerful women in the DC Universe. Her name is Mera and you don’t want to get on this quick-tempered beauty’s bad side because she won’t hesitate to kick your butt across all seven seas.

A princess of the underwater kingdom of Xebel who possesses enhanced strength, durability and the ability to bend water to her will, Mera trained since birth for her ultimate mission: to kill the current King of Atlantis in retaliation for her people’s exile. Mera knew that to do this, she’d have to gain Aquaman’s trust. It was the only way she could get close enough to kill him. But as she got to know Aquaman, something unexpected occurred—she fell in love. And thus began the fiery redhead’s constantly conflicted sense of being. To stand beside her husband is to betray her family and her people, but to give them what they want, to fulfill her mission, is something her heart would never allow her to do.

Although a hero in her own right, Mera often finds herself struggling between two worlds—whether it’s between her own people and her husband or between those of the surface and those of the sea. Her aggressive nature especially puts her at odds with the surface world, a world so much bigger and more complex than she was ever taught and with whom she finds it impossible to relate to and understand. It’s for her love of Aquaman that she even attempts to understand this world of man, and why she continues to try to be a part of both worlds while terrified of belonging to none.

For these crimes, the Circle of Eternity sentenced her and her fellow sinners—the Question and the Phantom Stranger—to eternal punishments specific to their crimes and vices. For Pandora, she was to spend eternity alone and in pain, forever watching the effects her choices have brought onto the world.

Poison Ivy

Some of the most beautiful plants in the world are dangerous. They’re alluring, beckoning you closer with their shape and their bloom, and by the time you realize the peril you’re in, it’s too late. In nature, beauty can be a weapon. So it’s fitting that Poison Ivy, Gotham’s beautiful-but-deadly Eco-terrorist, would use it as hers.

Once an innovative, radical botanical biochemist named Pamela Isley, Poison Ivy’s academic ambitions died on the vine when she was subjected to less-than-reputable experiments. These tests twisted Isley’s mind and gave her a dangerous set of superpowers. Ivy found herself able to control plants and began to use her wiles and pheromones to mesmerize and manipulate people. She entrances them into doing her bidding and then draws them in, where they soon discover Ivy’s other power: her kiss and touch can be lethal.

Some terrorists fight for their corner of the world, but Poison Ivy fights for the world itself. She’s a self-appointed defender of the environment. To her, plants have as much right to live as people…maybe more. Ivy sees humanity as a threatening blight the planet would be better without. Her utter conviction, combined with her noxious abilities, make her a beautiful but daunting adversary that should never by underestimated.

Emotions can drive people to act in strange and unusual ways. Love can cause you to do crazy things. Sadness can throw you into lethargy. Anger can lead you to violence. But for the hero known as Raven, any extreme emotion can do far worse: It can unleash her demonic side and cause her to destroy the world.

Raven is the daughter of the interdimensional demon Trigon, a malicious and powerful being that seeks to conquer and enslave the people of Earth—and whose dark powers and influence were passed down to his daughter. Raised in the alternate dimension of Azarath, the half-human, half-demon Raven grew up having to learn how to control her emotions in order to suppress her demonic powers. But while Raven must avoid experiencing any sort of extreme feeling, one of her demonic abilities allows her to feel and control the emotions of others—letting her experience their sorrow, happiness, joy, loss and more.

Raven is extremely powerful, gifted with magical, psychic and telekinetic powers as well as the ability to manipulate energy, emotion and shadows. However, despite her vast abilities, the one thing Raven wants the most is the one thing she cannot have: to be normal. She is forever cursed to never truly be herself because of the constant threat of destruction that comes with it.

Despite her need to maintain emotional control, Raven has formed a tight bond with the Teen Titans, considering them her only real family. She is willing do anything to protect them, even if it means surrendering to her own darkness and sacrificing her life in the process.
